GSL School Lemaster Playground Renovation

This week, construction of the Lemaster Playground, just north of the Middle School building, began! Most equipment has been removed, as well as the large tree (a sad but necessary step after a certified arborist examined the tree and determined it was diseased and needed to be removed). Soon, grading will begin, followed by drainage work and the prepping for new surfaces.

The work being done represents Phase 1, which includes removing all current equipment and the large tree. It also includes flattening the surface to expand the play area, resurfacing the entire area with cement and artificial turf, and installing a completely new drainage system. With the unexpected pandemic upon us, the decision was made to delay the installation of play structures, allowing additional outdoor space for teachers to conduct some classes outdoors, recess, and mask breaks. The timing of Phase 2 is TBD at this time. Phase 1 should be completed some time in September.
