MEASURING THE JUSTICE OF A SOCIETY IN THE BODIES OF ITS PEOPLE: AN INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH DISPARITIES
The Social Justice Ministry sponsored a two-part series on Health Disparities in our country with Dr. Kendra Hotz. This two-part lecture introduced the biological bridge that links social differences to health disparities and explores how those social differences result from a long history of policy choices that deliberately left racial and ethnic minorities at a disadvantage. The first lecture explored how stresses associated with social inequality throw our bodies into fight- or-flight response that over time causes diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and stroke. The second lecture explored the lives and family histories of two children who inherit the social inequalities that produce different health outcomes.
